I made a little of this up earlier today, and it's a bit choppy, so please forgive.

Have you ever considered the audience relevance of the New Testament of the Holy Bible, in the context that the Coming of the Lord Jesus was to be in the lifetimes of the disciples.  He personally taught those disciples. The apostles also personally were writing to and taught 1st Century Disciples.

 

According to the concept of audience relevance, the Coming of the Lord Jesus, or the "Return" or "Second," Coming applied to a first century audience.

 

Please read all of this.

 

I write this to you with Love and Humility.

No one wants to fear a future apocalypse, and there are millions around the world who, day by day, await Jesus to return with judgement in our modern society.  However,  the Bible never mentions our modern day society concerning it's eschatological prophecies.

 

As many know, the abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel the Prophet in the Tanakh/Old Testament was to precede The Coming of the Lord.

 

Here's some passages from scripture:

 

Dan 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

Dan 9:25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

Dan 9:26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

Dan 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

 

 

Dan 12:9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

Dan 12:10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

Dan 12:11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.

Dan 12:12 Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.

Dan 12:13 But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.

(notice in Daniel that the prophecies were sealed, yet in Revelation they were not...For the time was at hand!)

 

Mat 24:15 When {{{ye}}} therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

Mat 24:16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:

Mat 24:17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:

Mat 24:18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.

 

This is Jesus speaking to those in His presence, which, according to history, did indeed flee into the mountains of Pela. This happened before the time of the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem after a 3.5 (a time, times and half-a-time) year war (42 months, ~1260 days).

 

 

Luk 21:20 And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.

Luk 21:21 Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.

Luk 21:22 For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.

Luk 21:23 But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.

Luk 21:24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

The Coming of the Son of Man

Luk 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

Luk 21:26 Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

Luk 21:27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

Luk 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

 

Luk 21:20 And when {{{ye}}} shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.

(This happened cerca 70AD) (We must always consider audience relevance).  

 

Luk 21:21 Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.

Luk 21:22 For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.

(Context says that THOSE (First Century Days) were the days of vengeance, so that all things that were written would be fulfilled!)

 

Now, I am going to mention the Great Tribulation:

 

Mat 24:20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:

Mat 24:21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

Mat 24:22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

 

(Whose flight shouldn't have been in Winter? ... Americans? Citizens of Ghana?) NO ......

The Great Tribulation occurred in the time of the early Church.

We couldn't possibly be scourged in the synagogues, as Jesus said in His Olivet Discourse, which wasn't even directed to anyone in the modern day, but only to first century disciples, some of which would survive until His ("Second") Coming!

Also, there were other, "Comings of the Lord," in the OT!

 

1Th 3:4 For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know.

(consider the first century Thessalonians' Audience Relevance)

 

Mat 24:29 IMMEDIATELY after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

 

Mar 13:24 But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,

Mar 13:25 And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.

(Of course, from Joseph's dream in Genesis, the Sun, Moon and Stars doing metaphorical, physical things, is not literal, but sometimes in prophecy...symbolic and metaphorical, regarding authority, government and rule)

Mar 13:26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.

Mar 13:27 And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.

 

Rev 1:9 I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

 

Rev 7:13 And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they?

Rev 7:14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Rev 7:15 Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.

Rev 7:16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.

Rev 7:17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

(These are promises personally made by Jesus to first Century disciples...and Yes, I believe we can have them too)

 

Comparing the flood to the fiery judgement, called the Parousia....

 

Mat_24:37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Luk_17:26 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.

 

Mat 24:37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Mat 24:38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,

Mat 24:39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Mat 24:40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

Mat 24:41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

Mat 24:42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

 

So.....In the days of Noah, who perished (or got taken away), and who were left (protected/preserved), but the disciples Jesus told to flee into the mountains, from Judaea?

(We must compare like with like in that analogy).

 

Also, in 1 Thessalonians, the ones who were later caught up into the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, that would ever be with the Lord, were indeed (according to Audience Relevance), Paul, Silvanus, Timothy, the First Century Thessalonians, and other Christians who received this information.

 

To Note..

As prophesied by Jesus in Matthew 24...

Earthquakes in diverse places:

Act_16:26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.

(quite an earthquake!)

 

Famines

Act_11:28 And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar.

 

Wars and Rumors of Wars were many, according to first century history, including Josephus' Accounts of the Jewish Roman wars.

 

 

The gospel going out into all of the World:.

Rom 1:8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.

 

Col 1:3 We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,

Col 1:4 Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints,

Col 1:5 For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;

Col 1:6 Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth:

 

 

 

Again Audience Relevance and the Context of IMMINENCE AND URGENCY to a First Century Audience is VERY, VERY IMPORTANT!

 

Jesus' Words to his disciples...IN HIS PRESENCE!

 

Mat_16:28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

Mar_9:1 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.

Luk_9:27 But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.

 

Those disciples of Jesus, who were in His presence did NOT ALL DIE before 70 AD, when they witnessed the destruction of Jerusalem. (Again, Audience Relevance)

 

Also, when Pilate "washed his hands of the blood of Jesus," something important happened:

Mat 27:24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.

Mat 27:25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

 

Mystery Babylon was Jerusalem the whore who often whored about with other gods.

She rode on the Beast which was Rome, who executed the death of the Lord Jesus using the Romans.

In summary, the end of the age, was culminated in the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD

 

Now, the New Jerusalem comes down from above (The Church), and the Tabernacle of God is with men, as was prophecied in the Old and New Testaments.....

We've got the Holy Ghost and this earth is Eternal, (according to Ecclesiastes 1:4).
